Connecting to My World
There’s a disconnect that happens when symbols are used instead of real images, and the user’s workload is doubled because he or she must first learn the real-life objects for functional independence and then the symbols that represent those objects. Our new Functional Communication System utilizes high-definition pictures, audio and video taken from the real world. Our video library has over 4,000 images and videos to choose from, and more are added every day. You can also use the capabilities of the iPad to completely customize the application for the user – use the camera to shoot your own pictures and video and use the built-in microphone to record your own audio.
The Cool Factor
Who doesn’t want to be seen using an iPad? No longer will the user have to deal with the stigma of an awkward communication device that signals to everyone that “I am different.” The iPad is a versatile tool that can be used as a communication device. No one has to know that the user is using it as a communication tool.
